about grace davis

Grace Davis (she/her) is a native of Charleston, South Carolina currently residing in Reno, Nevada. A multi-media artist and educator, Grace received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and a Master of Arts, with an emphasis on Teaching and Learning in Art and Design, from Rhode Island School of Design. Grace has taught art classes to all ages across the country including painting, drawing, printmaking, and textile dyeing.

Grace works in a variety of mediums but primarily uses acrylic, gouache, graphite and charcoal to produce abstract botanical images on paper, panel, and canvas. Rather than producing photo-realistic still lives and landscapes, Grace focuses on the movement of the object, the vibration of color and life. Her abstract drawings and paintings offer the viewer an alternative perspective to the natural and built world, encouraging pause and deeper observation. This practice has extended beyond the painted canvas to wearable art in the form of polymer clay jewelry. You can often find her at markets around Reno or check out her website (grace-davis.com). While not in her studio, Grace is often documenting the floral on hikes with her husband and two dogs. Photographing plants and the landscape to use a reference material throughout Nevada and the Eastern Sierras.
