In this introductory workshop, students will create a mixed media abstract landscape painting based on an image of their choice. Atelier in Reno owner and artist Kelly will guide students through loosely layering paint and coordinating fabric pieces on canvas and, finishing the piece with sewing and embroidery techniques. All supplies are provided.

And as an add-on, we’re offering to finish off your piece with a little sewing magic. Local artist Denise Inda takes your almost-finished-work to the sewing room where she’ll add texture and shimmer, completing the process. Your work will be returned to you in about a week’s time. This class has a maximum sign-up of six (6) participants. At this time, due the amount of pre-planning, nature of a workshop environments and with respect to our instructor, we can not issue refunds on workshop registrations. In the event of an emergency, please notify us you will not be attending at least 48 hours prior to receive a credit towards another workshop. about kelly

Kelly is an optimist. This is apparent in her fresh approach to design and her enthusiasm to constantly learn and develop new skills. She is a believer that creativity manifests itself not only through graphic design but in everyday life and the more experiences you have with the world the better your design. Kelly has been cultivating her relationship with the world through travel, art and exploring the High Sierra Mountain range. She believes you should be adventurous in life as well as in your portfolio. Kelly respects the craftsmanship and artistry her industry is capable of and this reflects in her work and her attention to detail.

Kelly received her Bachelor's degree in Journalism with an emphasis in advertising from the University of Nevada, Reno. She then went on to portfolio school in Chicago where she focused on typography, layout and design thinking and interned with Lester and Lucy Press where she cultivated her love for print and letterpress. Her life took root in Reno, NV where she worked as the senior designer under Stan Byers at Stan Can Design™ creating award-winning design work. She is currently the owner of Atelier In Reno and a holds an MFA in Interdisciplinary Art from Sierra Nevada College.
